Techniques and Goal Ranking

TECHNIQUES AND GOAL RANKING

During this semester I have learned one new technique, which is using water from the sink as a filter system.  This can help us obtain the compound of interest that was precipitated when the original air filter system is not working.

Another technique that we will learn in approximately two weeks, will be the injection of the platinum compounds to DNA, and observe the selectivity of the compound of interest.

I think that from the scale of 1 to 5, my goals have so far obtained a 2 rank.  We have reached almost 10% of the goals for this semester.  We have synthesized two different compounds that contain different alkyl groups and another one in process.  During this week these compounds will be sent to the US and obtain their characterization.  After that we will start working with the interactions of the compounds with DNA and compare them.

I don’t think that we have experienced difficulties in the lab.  The syntheses that are made, are very long, and take lots of time to get to the final product.  Because of this we haven’t started the interactions with DNA, but we are right on track, and hoping to start as soon as possible.
