Goals reached in the end of this semester 2008!!
It’s amazing how time flies! Our main goal this semester was to start the interactions between the products obtained last semester and guanosine (GMP) a biological component. These interactions lead to comparisons of reactivity between actual leading drugs such as cisplatin and the platinum complexes that we made with the ligands thiazole and benzothiazole. We synthesized a total of 4 different types of platinum complexes (all of them derived from thiazole) containing different types of alkyl groups. The interaction between them and GMP, showed reaction, but not the one expected. We expected a faster reaction compared to gluthatione of the complexes with GMP. But the reaction was slower. Compared to cisplatin they are still not as reactive as this drug. This means that we have to do certain adjustments to the complexes to obtain better reaction. Next semester we plan to start cytotoxic tests for all of the complexes, which is the other goal we want to obtain. I give myself a 80% in goals of our overall project reached!!!

Good job, Magdelisse!
